Crane Removal at ACC Ōtepoti Marks Major Construction Milestone

The tower crane at the ACC Ōtepoti building site will soon be removed, marking a significant step forward in its construction progress.

Traffic management will be in place outside the site on SH1 Crawford Street and Queens Gardens from Friday, 31 May to Sunday, 2 June, as the crane removal team conducts the dismantling of the crane. At times, pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles will be paused as trucks pull out of site and move into the traffic lane. 

Ngāi Tahu Property General Manager Blair Forgie says this is a major milestone in the development of ACC Ōtepoti.

“Once the crane is removed, we can move into completing the roof, making the building fully enclosed and watertight.”

One of the standout features of ACC Ōtepoti is its striking exterior design inspired by the intricate woven pattern of a traditional poti (flax basket), which is also taking shape. This printed artwork created by Ngāi Tahu artist Kirsten Parkinson, serves both a functional and aesthetic purpose. The artwork optimises daylight levels and minimises energy consumption, one of the main sustainability features of this development.

Ngāi Tahu Property, in partnership with ACC Investments, is developing a 4-storey, 8,600 sqm office building nestled in Dunedin's historical precinct between Dowling Street and Queens Gardens. 

ACC Ōtepoti remains on track to be completed in mid-2025.
