The Ngāi Tahu Property team spent some time to improve their wellbeing and get to know each other a little better as part of Mental Health Awareness Week 2018.
With this year’s theme being ‘Let nature in, strengthen your wellbeing – Mā te taiao kia whakapakari tōu oranga!’ the team took the opportunity to enjoy some barbecued kai, perfectly cooked by the Senior Management Team, at The Groynes picnic area in Christchurch on Wednesday afternoon.
Activities on Wednesday - which was also World Health Awareness Day - included slack-line walking and an impromptu team building exercise - restraining the gazebo from a gusty nor’wester. But the highlight of the day - borrowed from the great Vogel’s Toast advert – was sharing an interesting experience or fact about each of the team and everyone else trying to guess who had done what. Not only did this help give the team a deeper insight into what makes their colleagues tick – it also highlighted the number of daredevils in the group!
The team’s experiences ranged from cycling Bolivia’s infamous ‘Death Road’, to bungy jumping out of helicopters with All Blacks, or captaining the Antarctic ‘Swim Team’, to nearly freezing to death after being accidentally locked in a hotel fridge one night.
Some experiences were obvious, but several people proved the truth of the adage – “never judge a book by its cover”.
