The Christchurch City Council is about to start using the new $9.3 million Prestons water pump station and reservoir.
While this equipment is going through its final tests over the next five days residents living in Queenspark, Parklands, Burwood, Marshlands and Prestons may taste chlorine in the water.
Do not be alarmed - the level of chlorination is less than 1 part per million (1ppm). This is well below the New Zealand drinking water standard maximum of 5ppm.
Chlorinating water is standard practice when new reservoirs are introduced or following routine maintenance. The reservoir and pump station will be part of what is known as the Parklands Water Supply Zone.
Remember if you live around Queenspark, Parklands, Burwood, Marshlands and Prestons you may taste chlorine in your water for up to a week. If it continues after that time please contact the Council.
