This development includes two office buildings and a multi-storey car park and sets new benchmarks for post-earthquake commercial buildings. The buildings incorporate the latest technology and quality design, including base isolation, buckling restrained bracing systems and high performance and energy efficient HVAC systems.
The external space between the buildings, Ngā Māra a Te Wera (The Gardens of Te Wera) is designed to be a shared space, a place for informal gatherings. The gardens named to commemorate Te Wera, a Ngāi Tahu warrior chief, soften the built-form environment. For more information on Te Wera click here. The space also pays tribute to the site’s rich Māori and European history spanning more than 700 years, having first been occupied as part of Puari Pā. From the mid-1800s it was utilised by the military, becoming the site of the King Edward Barracks and also Christchurch’s Police headquarters.
Tenants include EY (formerly Ernst Young), Aurecon, Vero, Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Health, Cambridge Partners and Kamo Marsh Landscape Architects. There is also Westend Stories café, West End Convenience Store, Inati Restaurant and Koha Fitness gym.
The West End car park provides 680 car parking spaces (both public and leased) and 198 secure bike parks. The building also houses the plantroom for Christchurch’s first district energy system which provides for the site’s heating and cooling needs. For more information please see www.cdec.co.nz
The car park features the latest technology including vehicle number plate recognition. We are also pleased to partner with Yoogo, a fully electric car-sharing scheme, that houses a number of their electric shared fleet vehicles within the car park.
